We added a show we think you might like

The other day I decided to make a spreadsheet of all of the shows that:

  1. I’ve wanted to watch
  2. I’ve been told “I absolutely have to watch this because it’s so good watch it as soon as you get home”
  3. Are a part of the social conversation, so big that it seems every conversation winds back to “that scene in Westworld” or “you still haven’t finished The Wire?”

The list has over 200 titles on it and it’s hardly finished. It is color coded in terms of finished, started, not started. What began as an eager attempt to catch up over the weekend quickly became a great impossibility. Do you remember the great Writer’s Strike of 2007-2008? Reality TV peaked. Nothing was on. Life felt cold, dark, hopeless. It seems like a lifetime away. We live in a world where every week a new Netflix Original Series is released. It becomes a quick rush. Who can binge it first? Can I finish it before it gets spoiled? So I can read all of the articles that seem, impossibly, to have been written before the show even aired?

Here’s the list, but I’m in no hurry to finish it. Television should be pleasure, not pressure. And in this girls world of books, more time should be dedicated to the physical. Turn it off for an hour or two. Put the unseen shows in your pantry for a year when you’re hungry for something good.

It’ll all still be there when you need it.
